How the Default Program Works

Understanding what the "Default" tag means on your programs, what falls back to your default program, and how to change which program is set as default.

Written by Shelby Baldwin

Every Buzzbassador account has exactly one program designated as the "Default" program. The default program is the fallback destination for members and applicants when no other program is specified. This article explains where the default program comes into play and how to change which one it is.

How to identify your default program

The default program is shown with a purple "Default" badge on the Programs page next to its name. Only one program can be set as default at a time.

What falls back to your default program

The default program is used as the destination in any of these scenarios:

  • Applicants submitting a form without specific routing: each application form has a Route To setting; if that setting is left at the default option (or the form was created before multi-forms existed), applicants from that form are routed to your default program.

  • Customer Applicants auto-approval: if you have Auto-approve Customer Applicants enabled, applicants who qualify by purchasing with a discount code are routed to your default program (regardless of which form they originally submitted).

  • Imports without a specific program selected: when importing members in bulk, the import popup defaults to your default program (you can override and pick a different program if needed).

  • Application form routing dropdown initial state: when creating a new form, the Route To setting initially points to your default program until you change it.

How to change which program is the default

1. Go to the Programs page in your left side menu.

2. Find the program you want to make the default.

3. Click the Make Default button on that program's row.

4. Click Confirm in the popup.

The selected program will now be marked as Default; the previous default loses the Default badge.

Things to know about the default program

  • Members can only be in one program at a time, including the default program. Setting a program as default does not move members between programs.

  • The default program cannot be deleted, since every account must have at least one active program. To delete the program currently set as default, first make a different program the default, then delete the old one.

  • You can change the default program at any time without affecting existing members or attribution data.
