How To Delete a Program Tier

Delete an existing program tier from your account and reassign its members to another active program. Includes what happens to member codes, affiliate links, settings, and the Shopify discount rules that belonged to the deleted program.

To delete a program in Buzzbassador, you must reassign its members to another active program at the same time. Members are not deleted with the program, only reassigned.

How to delete a program

1. Log in to your Buzzbassador app.

2. Go to Programs in the left side menu.

3. Find the program you want to delete and click the delete icon in its row.

4. In the confirmation dialog, use the dropdown to select another active program. Members of the deleted program will be reassigned to this program.

5. Click Confirm.

What happens to members during the reassignment

When you reassign members from a deleted program to a new program, the new program's settings take effect immediately and apply to all future activity. Here is a summary of what changes for each reassigned member:

  • Personal discount code: the new program's personal discount code applies (if the new program has discount codes enabled). If the new program has discount codes disabled, the member no longer has an active personal discount code.

  • Referral code: the member's existing referral code stays the same and moves to the new program's referral rule in Shopify (if the new program has referral codes enabled). If the new program has referral codes disabled, the member's referral code is deactivated in Shopify but preserved in their profile.

  • Affiliate link: if the new program has affiliate links enabled, the member's affiliate link regenerates to the new program's link type. If the new program has affiliate links disabled, the link disappears from the member's portal. The unique buzz_ref token stays the same across moves, so cookies set by the old link still credit the member correctly.

  • Rewards: future attributed orders generate commissions based on the new program's reward settings. Already-earned rewards are not affected by the deletion or reassignment.

  • Email notification: members are notified via the "Your settings changed" email if that email is turned on.

For the full breakdown of member movement behavior between programs with different settings, see the linked article.

What happens to the deleted program's Shopify discount rules

The deleted program had its own Shopify discount rules (one per code type that was enabled). When the program is deleted:

  • Personal discount code rule: Retained but if "restrict to members only" turned on, it won't be eligible for use as all eligible members have been moved elsewhere.

  • Referral rule: retained but empty as deactivated members' codes are moved to the new program's referral rule. Past orders retain their attribution.

  • BuzzLinks rule: retained in Shopify so that already-redeemed BuzzLinks codes (tied to past orders) preserve their attribution history. No new codes will be generated under this rule.

You can deactivate or delete any of the retained prior codes/code rules yourself by navigating to Shopify.

Notes:

  • Program deletion is permanent; there is no way to restore a deleted program once confirmed.

  • Reassignment happens immediately and triggers the "Your settings changed" email for every reassigned member if that email is turned on. If you want to customize that email first to explain the change, do so before deleting the program.

  • If you want to retain the program for historical reference but stop new applicants from joining, consider keeping it active and removing it from your default and routing settings instead of deleting.
