If a reward in your dashboard shows as Declined, it doesn't necessarily mean something went wrong. Brands set up rules that automatically decline certain rewards, and your dashboard will show the reward's status but not always the specific reason it was declined.
This article covers the most common reasons a reward gets declined and what to do if you think it was a mistake.
Common reasons a reward shows as declined
The order was refunded or cancelled: if the customer's order was fully refunded or cancelled, there's no sale left to earn a reward on, so it shows as declined.
The order looks like a self-purchase: some brands don't allow ambassadors to earn a reward on their own orders, so if the order appears to have been placed by you, it may be automatically declined.
The order shipped somewhere the brand restricts: some brands limit which shipping destinations are eligible for a reward.
The brand currently isn't offering rewards for your program: if rewards aren't active for the program you're in, an order can still be tracked to you, but the reward shows as declined at $0.
These rules vary from brand to brand, and it's the brand's settings, not anything you did, that determines whether a specific reward is declined.
What to do if you think a decline was a mistake
Only the brand you work with can see the full order details and reverse (reauthorize) a declined reward. If you believe a reward was declined incorrectly, for example the order wasn't actually a self-purchase, or a refund was later reversed, reach out to the brand directly with the order details so they can look into it.
Notes:
Your dashboard shows the reward's status (Declined) but not always the specific reason behind it. If you're not sure why a reward was declined, the brand is the best source for that detail.
A declined reward that gets reauthorized doesn't always come back at a different amount; in some cases the brand can only restore it to what the original record was.
If you have questions about a specific reward, include the order number or date when you contact the brand: it makes it much faster for them to look up.
