Buzzbassador auto-declines rewards in four scenarios:
Zero-sum reward: the associated order was fully refunded or cancelled, resulting in a $0 commission. The reward shows in Declined with a $0 amount.
Self-placed order: the "auto-decline rewards for self-placed orders" setting is enabled and the order was placed by the member themselves.
Shipping country restriction: the "auto-decline rewards for orders shipped to certain countries" setting is enabled and the order shipped to a restricted country.
Rewards disabled for the member's program: the order was attributed to a member whose program had the Rewards section toggled off at the time of the order. Buzzbassador still creates a reward record for the attributed order to keep the data complete, but the amount is $0 and the reward is auto-declined immediately.
If an auto-decline was a mistake, you can reauthorize it.
How to identify which cause applies to a declined reward
The decline reason isn't shown explicitly in the UI; the status just shows as "Declined." To identify the cause, you may need to cross-reference the order in Shopify and check your Preferences settings:
If the order is fully refunded or cancelled in Shopify, the cause is likely a zero-sum reward.
If the reward amount is $0 but the order is paid in Shopify, the cause is likely the member's program having rewards disabled at the time of the order.
If the reward amount is non-$0, check whether the order was placed by the member themselves (self-placed) or shipped to a country in your auto-decline list.
Fixing each scenario
Zero-sum (refunded) order: this is correct behavior. No action needed unless the refund was reversed, in which case you can reauthorize.
Self-placed order: if you want to credit a specific self-placed order, reauthorize the reward. To stop auto-declining all self-placed orders, change the setting in Preferences.
Shipping country restriction: if you want to credit a specific restricted-country order, reauthorize the reward. To change which countries are restricted, update the setting in Preferences.
Rewards disabled for the member's program: reauthorizing only restores the $0 amount, since that's what the original record was. To actually credit the member, either pay them manually outside of Buzzbassador or contact support to adjust the amount on the backend. To stop creating $0 declined rewards going forward, turn rewards back on for the member's program.
