How Content Tracking Works

How Buzzbassador automatically monitors social media for posts that mention or tag your brand

Written by Shelby Baldwin

What Is Content Tracking?

Content Tracking is how Buzzbassador automatically monitors Instagram and Facebook for posts involving your brand's connected account. (TikTok tracking is coming soon, but isn't available yet, see the note under Supported Platforms below.) When a creator publishes a public post that mentions your account, tags your account, or adds your account as a collaborator, Buzzbassador detects it within 15 minutes and surfaces it in your Content Feed, no manual searching required.

Important: Buzzbassador does not track hashtags. Only posts that @mention your connected account in the caption, tag your connected account on the post, or add your connected account as a collaborator will be detected. A creator using your brand's hashtag without mentioning, tagging, or adding you as a collaborator will not show up in your Content Feed.

This gives you a real-time feed of creators who are already talking about you, so you can engage them, invite them to your program, or link their posts to campaigns.

How It Works

Step 1. Connect Your Social Accounts

Before tracking can begin, you need to connect your Instagram and Facebook business accounts to Buzzbassador. These are called your Connected Accounts and are the profiles Buzzbassador monitors for mentions, tags, and collaborator posts.

To connect, go to Settings > Integrations, find Meta, and click Connect. For the full requirements and walkthrough, see How to Set Up the Social Listening (Meta) Integration.

Step 2. Posts Are Detected Automatically

Once your accounts are connected, Buzzbassador scans continuously for public posts that mention your account, tag your account, or add your account as a collaborator. There's no additional setup or list to configure, detection is automatic as soon as you're connected.

Most matching posts are detected within 15 minutes of publication.

Step 3. Review Posts in Your Content Feed

Every matched post appears in Social Listening > Content Feed. From there you can:

  • View the original post on the native platform

  • See the creator's profile, follower count, and engagement metrics

  • Invite the creator to your ambassador program

  • Send a DM or email using a saved template

  • Request usage rights for their content

  • Link the post to a campaign for submission tracking

  • Take bulk actions across multiple posts at once

Supported Platforms

Instagram

  • Connected as part of the combined Meta integration flow, alongside Facebook

  • Must be a Business or Creator account connected to the same Meta Business asset as your Facebook Page

Facebook

  • Connected as part of the same combined Meta integration flow as Instagram

  • Tracks posts where your Page is mentioned, tagged, or added as a collaborator

TikTok (COMING SOON)

TikTok tracking isn't available yet. We'll update this article with connection steps once it launches.

Understanding Connection Status

Once connected, the integration doesn't need to be periodically refreshed or reconnected, it's a persistent connection. Your connected accounts display a status badge:

  • Active — Tracking is working normally.

  • Disconnected — Something has interrupted the connection (for example, access was revoked on the Meta side). Your historical data is preserved, but no new posts will be detected until you reconnect. If you see this, reach out to [email protected], since this is a newer integration we want to help troubleshoot any disconnections directly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Buzzbassador track hashtags?

No. A creator using your brand's hashtag is not enough on its own, the post also needs to mention your connected account in the caption, tag your connected account on the post, or add your connected account as a collaborator in order to be detected.

Can I track posts from private accounts?

No. Buzzbassador can only access posts on public accounts. Posts from private accounts are not visible through the social platform APIs.

A post I know exists isn't showing up. What should I check?

A few things to verify:

  1. Confirm the post is from a public account

  2. Confirm the post actually mentions your account, tags your account, or adds your account as a collaborator, a hashtag alone will not be picked up

  3. Make sure the platform connection shows an Active status, not Disconnected

  4. Allow up to 15 minutes from the time the post was published

What happens to my data if the connection is ever interrupted?

All previously collected posts and creator data are preserved. Tracking simply pauses until you reconnect. Once reconnected, new posts will resume appearing automatically.

Can I connect more than one Instagram or Facebook account?

No, Buzzbassador can only connect to one Meta Business asset (and its associated Instagram and Facebook accounts) at a time.

Tips for Getting the Most Out of Content Tracking

  • Connect your accounts before you launch: connect Instagram and Facebook before your first campaign goes live so you capture mentions, tags, and collaborator posts from day one.

  • Encourage creators to tag or add you as a collaborator, not just use your hashtag: since hashtags alone aren't tracked, remind ambassadors that tagging your account or adding you as a collaborator is what actually gets their post detected.
