Where To Find Member Codes in Shopify

A guide to locating each of the three code types Buzzbassador can issue per program (personal discount codes, referral codes, and BuzzLinks codes) within your Shopify Discounts section.

Written by Shelby Baldwin

Buzzbassador stores all member codes in your Shopify Discounts list. There are up to three separate Shopify discount rules per program, one for each code type that's enabled. This article explains where each one is stored and how to find member-specific codes within them.

1. Understand the three discount rule types 0:04

Every Buzzbassador program creates discount rules in your Shopify Discounts list. A single program can create up to three separate rules:

  • Personal discount code: one shared code per program. All members of the program use the same code (e.g., TEAM20) for their personal purchases.

  • Referral codes: each member has a unique code, all stored under one parent referral rule per program.

  • BuzzLinks codes: each customer click on a BuzzLink generates a unique single-use code, stored under a separate parent rule per program. This rule fills up over time as customers click member BuzzLinks.

The exact rules you see in Shopify depend on which code types are enabled for that program.

2. Find the personal discount code 0:21

The personal discount code is the shared code every member uses for their own purchases.

  1. In Buzzbassador, go to Programs and click Edit on the program.

  2. Note the personal discount code listed in the Discount Code section (e.g., TEAM20).

  3. In Shopify, go to Discounts and search for that code or rule title (in most cases these are the same).

  4. Click to open the discount rule.

3. Find the referral codes parent rule 0:49

Referral codes are unique to each member, but they are all stored under one parent rule in Shopify.

  1. In Buzzbassador, go to Programs and click Edit on the program.

  2. Note the Referral Rule Title listed in the Referral Codes section (e.g., "Program 1 referral codes").

  3. In Shopify, go to Discounts and search for that referral rule title.

  4. Click the rule to open it.

  5. Click View all codes to see every member's individual code listed underneath.

4. Find the BuzzLinks codes rule 1:11

BuzzLinks codes are stored under a separate Shopify discount rule that Buzzbassador creates automatically when BuzzLinks are enabled on a program, distinct from your referral rule. Each click on a member's BuzzLink generates a new single-use code under this rule, so the list grows as customers click and redeem.

  1. In Shopify, go to Discounts.

  2. Search for "BuzzLinks" or scroll through your discount rules to find the one with codes starting with BUZZ-.

  3. Click the rule to open it.

  4. Click View all codes to see every BuzzLinks code that's been generated for this program.

BuzzLinks codes follow the format BUZZ-[member-token]-[unique-suffix] (for example, BUZZ-4818406280HXMM9-8395CCFE). The [member-token] portion of the code corresponds to that member's buzz_ref token, so you can identify which member earned attribution from a given code.

5. Account for multiple programs and disabled code types 1:46

  • If you have multiple programs, you'll have multiple discount rules in Shopify, one per code type per program. A brand running 3 programs with all three code types enabled would have up to 9 Shopify discount rules total: 3 personal discount codes, 3 referral rules, and 3 BuzzLinks rules.

  • Members' codes are listed under their program's respective rule.

  • If a code type is disabled on a program, no rule is created for that type.
